Butterfly Fairies – Art prints and t-shirts!

20. Juli 2014 at 23:14 in Artwork, Other Stuff

I did it! I just spent a few hours to open up my very first etsy-Shop :)

For the start I decided to offer some of my artwork as prints – I’ve painted the butterfly fairies a while ago and just ordered some 20×20 cm prints, and the look really well :)

You can find my etsy-Shop here: https://www.etsy.com/de/shop/MiezesWelt.

… I also made some shirts, mugs, bags and stuff with my fairies – you can order them from spreadshirt: http://miezes-welt.spreadshirt.de/.

Well then .. let’s see how it goes ;)

Building a waterfall (indoor fountain) – Part 1

23. Juni 2014 at 22:05 in Fairy Garden, Landscape

waterfall-indoor-fountain1I want some real water in my fairy garden. Unfortunately I didn’t find an indoor fountain that I liked, so I decided to build one on my own.

I used aluminum foil to make a slightly mountain-shaped .. thing. Then I covered it with cheap air-dry modelling clay (Creall Do & Dry – which was really nice to work with, by the way). Since I needed about one pound of it, my normal fimo would have been much too expensive o.O

I tried to build a small basin on top for the water to collect and made an indentation at one side so it will (hopefully) fall down as a nice waterfall. I also made a small cave behind the waterfall – I always liked those, it feels great to stand behind the water :)

There’s a path leading to a small platform next to the waterfall – to make it easier for my fairies to climb the mountain and enjoy the view ;)

Yeah, I know, it doesn’t look like much yet. But I hope that will change with some coats of paint. And maybe some cement / compound stuff, cause I have no clue if the modelling clay can handle water… I will assume it doesn’t and proceed accordingly ;)

I will also need a lake to hold the water (and the pump). I’m thinking of a swimming lake / lagoon type of thing for my fairies. But I’ll worry about that when the mountain looks OK and the waterfall works right^^

Scottish highland cows

polymer-cows-scottish-highlI made this little family as a birthday gift for a good friend, and they turned out quite cute. And I’m really glad she liked them :)

Building a tree – Part 4

28. Mai 2014 at 23:36 in Fairy Garden, Landscape

model-tree-oreganoI decided to go a step further with my little tree, although I really liked it before.

So I dyed the carrageen a little darker, draped some paper around the trunk to protect it, covered everything with spray glue – and sprinkled the whole thing with oregano ;) .. and I think it is an improvement. I’ll have to cut some excess branches, but otherwise it looks really good. From a distance ;) ..

Downside: the whole room smells like oregano. Time to cook some pasta …

Gardening fairies

25. Mai 2014 at 23:35 in Fairies, Fairy Garden

I will (hoperfully)gardening-fairies-polymer-s start soon with building my actual fairy garden – and I thougt I could use some help. So I made 3 gardening fairies :)

Building a tree – Part 3

16. Mai 2014 at 22:18 in Fairy Garden, Landscape

tree-carrageenFor the next step I wanted to add something to mimic the small twigs that actually hold the leaves. I ended up usind good old carrageen. The plan was to color that carrageen brown once the glue had dried, and then add the leaves. But I’m not sure if I want to try that, I actually like the tree the way it is right now ;)

.. again, the photographs are really cruel, everything looks much better in reality, without the magnifying glass^^

Failed attempt: The pond

14. Mai 2014 at 22:07 in Fairy Garden, Landscape

pondThis is the second time that I tried to build a pond. The first one was a disaster – I filled it up with transparent Window Color, hoping to make it look like water. Truth is: Window Color is only transparent if you use a very thin coat. Otherwise it looks like milk. It also shrinks a lot while it dries – the pond has been laying on my cupboard for a few weeks now, and it looks like something slimey died in there :( .. trust me, you don’t want to see it ..

This time I wanted to be smarter, so I bought resin. And it almost worked. Almost. Do you see the white stuff at the bottom of the pond? .. that is liquid fimo (polymer clay). I used it to keep the pebbles in place, and some of it ran into the pond and formed a puddle. Which shouldn’t be a problem, liquid fimo is transparent, you could hardly see it before I poured in the resin. But after getting in contact with the resin it turned white :( .. yeah .. didn’t see that one coming.

So there will be a third pond. Some time in the future ;)

Building a tree – Part 2

12. Mai 2014 at 22:06 in Fairy Garden, Landscape

tree-paintedI’ve added some more branches and painted the wirefrime with a mix of glue, acrylic paint and breadcrumps. Yes, breadcrumps ;) … Usually you would use sawdust to create a structure, but I didn’t have any, so I thought, what the heck *g*

.. you can see the structure when you look at the closeup. You will also see, that the tree could use another coat or two of that paint, you can still see the wires. But I’ll leave it for now, I won’t look at my garden with a microscope ;)

tree-wireframeI’ve decided that I want some “fairysized” trees in my garden. You can buy them, but they are quite expensive at that size :(

.. so I’ll try and make my own. I started with a wireframe for a small tree (8cm high = 4-5 meters in reality), and now I’ll have to figure out how to proceed ;) .. but now that I see the photo, I think I’ll add another branch first … that thing looks like a flying spider o.O

Little House – The roof

8. Mai 2014 at 21:39 in Buildings, Fairy Garden

house-roofI added a grass roof to my little house. You can still remove it and look inside, of course.

There’s also a little white bird on top. It was supposed to be a dove, but it looks more like a seagull to me. Doesn’t matter as long as it’s happy ;)
